In early 2019, I was given the opportunity to fulfill a long time dream of mine - designing a Fiesta medal.
Every April in my hometown of San Antonio, TX, a massive two-week celebration takes place encompassing parties, pageantry, music, and lots of food. It’s called Fiesta. One of the markers of the celebration are Fiesta medals - decorative metal pins often attached to brightly colored ribbon, designed uniquely to represent particular businesses, organizations, people, etc. Many Fiesta goers collect medals and wear them to events throughout the celebration.
This medal I have designed represents Eva’s Heroes, a non-profit organization providing programs for individuals for intellectual special needs in the Central Texas area.
I created a two-piece poster set thanking Toyota Texas for their generous donation to the non-profit organization Eva’s Heroes. This donation helps expand recreational activities and programs to reach those with intellectual special needs on the southside of San Antonio. These posters depict illustrations of iconic landmarks of San Antonio’s southside including the Mission Drive-In Theatre and Mission San Juan. The color scheme is inspired by the traditional “fiesta” colors, which are often associated with the Alamo city.
Pulling inspiration from the big, thick, and bold letting styles of the 70’s, I created a unique hand-lettered logo type for “Saturday Night Fever: A Disco Gala”.
